Carbon Fibre Reinforced PETG · Intermediate
PETG-CF (Carbon Fibre Reinforced PETG) prints at 240-260°C with the bed at 80-90°C. No enclosure needed. Dry the filament before printing.
PETG with carbon fibre added for stiffness and a matte black finish. Easier than PA-CF and it hides layer lines well. Still abrasive.

The problem people actually hit
People expect carbon fibre to mean stronger in every sense. It means stiffer. Impact resistance goes down, not up.
Drying
Hygroscopic. Dry at 65C for 4-6 hours.
Buying PETG-CF
PETG-CF is easy enough to find, though from fewer brands than PLA or PETG. Stick to sellers who publish a diameter tolerance. Typical street price is $35-60 per 1 kg spool.
Check before you order
- Diameter 1.75mm unless your printer takes 2.85mm. Check before ordering, not after.
- Published diameter tolerance. ±0.02mm is good, ±0.05mm is loose and shows up as inconsistent extrusion.
- Vacuum-sealed with desiccant. Hygroscopic filament that shipped open has already absorbed moisture and will need drying before its first print.
- Fit a hardened nozzle first. This material is abrasive and will widen a brass nozzle within a print or two.

Filament dryer
Must reach at least 65C
PETG-CF will not print cleanly wet, and many budget dryers stop at 55-60C. Check the maximum temperature before buying, not the marketing copy.

Brass, M3 unless your design says otherwise
Printed threads strip. If you are making stiff functional parts out of PETG-CF, melting brass inserts in gives you a metal thread that survives being undone more than once.

Hardened steel or ruby, matching your hot end
PETG-CF is abrasive and will widen a brass nozzle within a print or two. Fit the hardened nozzle before the first print - the symptom, worsening underextrusion, looks like a dozen other faults.

PETG-CF or PETG?
PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) prints at 220-250°C with a 70-85°C bed and needs no enclosure. The usual step up from PLA. Tougher, more heat resistant, still printable without an enclosure. The trade is stringing and fussier bed adhesion.
