Gear that solves a specific problem.

Every item here exists because something documented on this site creates a real need for it. The requirement is written first and the product second, so the advice still works when a listing disappears.

We may earn a commission if you buy through this link, at no extra cost to you. It does not affect what appears here.

Filament

Buying guidance for filament belongs with the settings, not on a list. Each material page carries what to check before ordering that specific material, the price band to expect, and where it is actually stocked.

All 31 materials

Printers

We do not name a printer, because we have not tested one and will not pretend otherwise. What we can give you is the threshold each tier of material actually demands. Match a machine against these and the shortlist writes itself.

  1. 01

    A stock, open-frame printer

Unlocks 16 of the 31 materials here

Hot end to about 260°C and a bed to 90°C. No chamber.

For example: PLA, PETG, PETG-CF, PCTG, PLA Silk, PLA Matte

  2. 02

    Add a hardened nozzle

Unlocks 9 filled and loaded compounds

Brass wears within a spool on anything with carbon, glass, metal, wood or phosphor in it. The nozzle is the cheapest upgrade on this list.

For example: PA-CF, PETG-CF, PLA Wood, PLA Metal, PLA-CF, PA-GF

  3. 03

    Add an enclosure

Unlocks 13 materials that warp without still, warm air

Hot end to 420°C and a bed to 180°C for the full set. Most of them are reachable well below that.

For example: ABS, ASA, PC, PEEK, Nylon PA6, Nylon PA12

Common questions

Do you test the products you recommend?
No, and we do not claim to. Every item here is chosen against a stated technical requirement, and every listing is confirmed live with real imagery before it is published. Where a figure is given it comes from the manufacturer, not from us. If that changes, first-party testing will be labelled as such.
Why are there no printer recommendations?
Because we have not tested one. What we can give you is the capability threshold each material actually needs: hot end temperature, bed temperature, whether a chamber is required and whether the nozzle has to be hardened. Match a machine against those and the shortlist writes itself.
How do you choose which products to list?
The requirement comes first. A tool appears only where a documented material or workshop step creates a genuine need for it, and only where a listing meets the stated specification. Commission plays no part in whether something is listed.
What if a product is discontinued?
The requirement above it still tells you what to buy, and a category search link stays available for every cluster. That is the reason the requirement is written first rather than as a footnote.
